Balchik Palace Architectural Park complex – located within 46 km of Varna. A former summer residence of the Romanian Queen Marie, today it is a University Botanical Garden and features the second largest in Europe permanent collection of large-sized cactuses. It has plant collections of more than 3,500 species, which are continuously enriched. It has established itself as an important tourist sight and is a cultural monument, protected area and a little known fact is that the territory of the Botanical Garden has a statute of a rescue centre under the Washington convention. The restored water mills are used today as the hotel facility of the complex.
