Cape Kaliakra and the eponymous fortress


Cape Kaliakra and the eponymous fortress – It is located near the villages of Balgarevo and Sveti Nikola, within 12 km of Каvarna and 70 kilometres northeast of Varna. It is the longest headland in Bulgaria – jutting out 2 km into the sea and resembling a peninsula. Today, Kaliakra is declared a nature and archaeological reserve, including land part and aquatic territory. Here nest European shags and dolphins can be seen.

Location: 12 km of Kаvarna and 6 km of the village of Balgarevo. Accessible by car or via public transport from Kavarna Bus Station (tel. of Kavarna Bus Station 0570 8 23 90).

Opening hours: The site is open all year round, however the best time to visit is the period April – October. Opening hours: 9:00–20:00 h.
